Installation Conditions That Matter
Avoid the two most common chiller configuration mistakes.
A correctly sized chiller machine can still alarm, overflow or underperform when the heat-rejection utility or tank arrangement does not match the selected structure.
Choosing Water-Cooled Without Cooling-Tower Water
A water-cooled condenser cannot reject heat without adequate external cooling water. The result can be high-pressure alarms and excessive system temperature.
Recommended check
Confirm a suitable cooling tower and a condenser-water pressure difference above 0.15 MPa. Otherwise, select an air-cooled model.
Connecting Two Tanks to a Coil-Type Chiller
A coil-type unit already includes a tank. Connecting it to equipment with another open tank can create communicating-vessel overflow and unstable levels.
Recommended check
When the process already has an external tank, use a closed shell-and-tube evaporator configuration and keep only one tank in the circuit.

What is the difference between an air-cooled chiller and a water-cooled chiller?
An air-cooled chiller releases heat through condenser fins and ambient airflow, so it does not need cooling-tower water. A water-cooled chiller transfers heat to an external condenser-water circuit through a shell-and-tube condenser, making it better suited to fixed installations with adequate cooling-water utilities and higher cooling demand.
When should I choose a coil evaporator instead of a shell-and-tube evaporator?
Choose a coil evaporator when an internal chilled-water tank, simple cleaning and thermal buffering are preferred. Choose a shell-and-tube evaporator when the production equipment already has an external tank or when a closed circuit, higher flow and stronger heat-transfer performance are required.
What chilled-water temperature can a Topstar chiller provide?
Standard air-cooled and water-cooled chillers provide controlled chilled water from 5°C to 35°C. Low-temperature configurations are available for lower setpoints; the exact model must be selected from the required outlet temperature, ambient condition and process heat load.
Can one industrial chiller cool several injection molding machines?
Yes, but the system must be engineered from the combined simultaneous heat load. Pump flow, pump pressure, pipe resistance, buffer volume and machine diversity must also be checked. A standard one-to-one pump configuration should not be assumed suitable for a one-to-many system.
What information is required before selecting an industrial water chiller?
Provide the machine type and quantity, material, mold and cycle information, required supply temperature, return temperature, water flow, ambient temperature, available cooling-tower conditions, tank arrangement, pipe distance and whether the chiller will be moved between machines.
