How Did We Address Unstable Injection Molding of Large Plastic Household Products?

Large Plastic Household Products 1

Many European manufacturers of everyday plastic products face production challenges: improper equipment configuration when manufacturing large plastic basins and buckets can increase defect rates and reduce output. For this European large plastic household products injection molding project, we integrated three injection molding machines, plus more than 20 pieces of auxiliary equipment and robots, into a complete production line. This solution seamlessly integrates equipment configuration, molding performance, and automated material handling. The large ABS parts produced in this project successfully passed initial trial molding, and the entire production line subsequently passed on-site acceptance testing.

Why Do Large Plastic Household Products Injection Molding Projects Require Turnkey Solutions?

For this project, we needed to address instability issues in the production process of large plastic household products. Our scope included injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and robots, and we integrated them into a complete production line. You can see the process in the video below:

Addressing Equipment Mismatch Issues in the Injection Molding of Large Plastic Household Products

When producing large plastic basins and plastic bins, the customer faced challenges such as equipment mismatch, high product defect rates, and low yield rates. The top priority was to build a compatible equipment set to ensure stable, consistent injection molding and product-handling processes.

Consequently, we conducted comprehensive planning for the injection molding machines and supporting equipment, fully considering their roles throughout the production process. Based on this, we moved to the next phase: configuring three injection molding machines and equipping them with the auxiliary equipment and injection molding robots needed for coordinated operation.

Addressing Equipment Mismatch Issues in the Injection Molding of Large Plastic Household Products

Configuration of an Integrated Injection Molding Production Line for Plastic Household Goods

We provided three injection molding machines, along with more than 20 pieces of auxiliary equipment and robots, which together constitute the turnkey injection molding production solution in this case study.

Equipment groupContribution to our solution
Injection molding machinesProvide the main molding capability for the project
Auxiliary equipmentSupport the operating conditions and services required for production
RobotsHandle products within the coordinated production sequence
Integrated operationBring the individual equipment functions together as a production line

The injection molding machines handle molding operations, the auxiliary equipment supports production, and the injection molding robots perform automated material handling. Our goal is to organically link these functions to form a synergistically operating production line.

This configuration is not merely a stacking of equipment; it ensures that each set of equipment fulfills its specific role within the overall manufacturing process and can be controlled uniformly, while the final layout effectively meets the customer’s production needs. In this project, we integrated the main machines and supporting equipment into a unified scope of delivery; then we moved from equipment configuration to product validation and production line validation.

How Did We Conduct Validation and Debugging?

We evaluated the project based on two key milestones: trial molding of large ABS parts and on-site acceptance testing of the entire production line. The former demonstrated molding results for specific products, while the latter confirmed the production line delivery milestone.

How Did We Conduct Validation and Debugging

Validation of Large ABS Parts

As part of the project, we optimized the molding performance of plastic household goods. During commissioning, the ABS injection-molded parts passed on the first attempt in the initial trial run, demonstrating stable dimensional accuracy and high visual consistency. The actual inspection process for such trial runs consists of three stages:

Trial stageKey checksParameters to review if defects occur
FillingDoes the melt fill the cavity completely, without short shots, flash, or visible flow defects?Injection speed, available injection pressure, and the velocity-to-pressure transfer position
PackingAre there sink marks, inconsistent part weight, or dimensional deviations?Holding pressure, holding time, and gate-freeze behavior
Cooling and demoldingDoes the part retain its shape and release without distortion or ejection damage?Cooling time, mold-temperature balance, and ejection settings

The above inspection criteria form the technical framework for evaluating large ABS parts;

In this project, the ABS part met the expected dimensional and appearance requirements during the very first trial run. The next step was to validate the entire production line through on-site acceptance testing.

Completion of On-Site Acceptance Testing for the Plastic Household Products Injection Molding Production Line

After completing equipment integration and molding validation, the entire production line successfully passed on-site acceptance testing. This marks the achievement of the final delivery milestone set out in our project plan.

Through this project, we integrated injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and robots, effectively resolving the instability issues the customer encountered during mass production. In this plastic household products injection molding case, we integrated various equipment into a complete system, completed molding validation for large ABS parts, and ultimately passed on-site acceptance of the production line. This is the goal of our turnkey solution: to meet the customer’s production needs through coordinated equipment operation.
